Scuola HackThe school "IC Baccio da Montelupo" (FI)  consists of two kindergartens, a primary school and a secondary school, with just below 1,500 students and 135 teachers.

The interaction with the local area is one of the key points of the school educational offer. Related projects, aimed to promote increased awareness of local cultural heritage value, are currently being developed within the curriculum; often this process takes place in innovative ways and by involving parents and young adults. The integrated design with the municipal administration and the various players in the area (associations, museum of ceramics, ...) focuses three guiding themes: Inclusion, sustainable development and active citizenship, through a plurality of paths of participatory planning. With working groups involving all stakeholders and through one of these paths, we co-designed some aspects of the new school building recently launched (September 2013), which has 12 primary school classes; its special feature is the organization of the learning environment, designed to facilitate collaborative work, and sustainability in terms of energy. http://www.istitutocomprensivomontelupo.it/plessi/edificio-nuova-scuola.html

Each space is connected to Internet, almost all classrooms are equipped with LIM and one or more multimedia workstations to work with. In this context there are several trials involving both primary and secondary school; they are conducted through a partnerships network involving companies and Research Institutions. All work performed up to now has been documented through videos and publications. The partnership with INDIRE (National Institute for Educational Research) and the University of Pisa and Milan enabled to develop innovative teaching, monitor trends and check the results step by step. The partnership with Italian and international companies gives way to experience cutting-edge equipment and software, such as the Smart and Promethean Interactive Tables, the Infomentor platform of e-learning and collaborative software thoughtfully designed for LIM and BYOD devices.

Another very important aspect is the experience of remote collaboration among schools (National Project "Marinando" and Regional Project "R2") and classes (two of primary school in cooperating with Erimni (Cyprus) and Ornavasso-Cuneo, in a triangulation centered on pottery in archaeological context).

Regard to the curriculum, the school is developing a "vertical curriculum", in collaboration with the University of Pisa (Maths Department) and of Florence (Laboratory for Aegean Civilization) and some archaeological associations in the area.
